Alpha & Omega is an excellent interlude in the Wolverine and the X-Men series. I would kill for a series about the Jean Grey school that is just slice of life for the staff and students. Like what is Roxy Washington going to write her end of semester paper on, what did Dr. McCoy blow up in his lab this time, Quentin Quire plays a prank on Wolverine.

That last one is essentially what Alpha & Omega is.

Quentin creates a virtual reality mind scape and Wolverine and Hisako Ichiki (Armor) get dropped into it. Quentin’s pissed at Wolverine and wants to prove that he’s more powerful than him. Then Logan’s subconscious wakes up and starts going on a rampage through the school to find Quentin and Quentin loses control of the construct causing everything to go to shit.

Highlights include:

  • Quentin’s neon orange shorts.
  • Quentin’s shirts in general are always fantastic.
  • Quentin struggling to move Wolverine’s unconscious body (adamantium bones heavy af)
  • Santo: Did you sleep at all last night?
Quentin: Nah… but I changed my shirt.
  • Roxy Washington totally brushing off Quentin’s attempts to impress her.
  • Quentin admitting that he’s kind of a mess.
  • The full page image that is just Logan stabbing Quentin.
  • Quentin packing his bags to leave and saying that he’s going to miss Broo the most when he leaves.
  • There is also a very excellent spread about Quentin in the back of the book.

I really like that we got to see Quentin’s mental prowess here. We got to see him pushed past his limits. Quentin is usually pretty nonchalant about his telepathy as he is incredibly powerful. Here we see him go as far as he can go and then wind up in over his head.

You can get the book here.
